More Volunteer Info (incl. Housing Families, Pet Fostering, Drop Offs, Future City Info)

A Pflugerville resident living in Creekside passed on that:

Per Cat Callen's office, the City of Pflugerville does not yet have

any specific activities or shelters locally where we can volunteer
to help. Information will be added to the City's web site as local
opportunities to help arise. For updates, visit
www.cityofpflugerville.com, and then click Hurricane Relief
Information. In the meantime, here are some other ways we can help:

☺ Volunteer with the American Red Cross by calling 928-4271. The Red
Cross is coordinating nationwide to bring help to all the refugees.
Their message said that, due to the number of people who have
recently volunteered, it might take up to a week for them to contact
you with an assignment.

☺ Volunteer with the Capital Area Food Bank at 8201 South Congress
Ave by calling 282-2111. The CAFB is collecting specific items for
distribution by the Red Cross.
Collection Sites are:
All Randall's grocery stores
HEB at 1000 E 41st at Red River (Hancock Center)
HEB at Bee Caves Road at Highway 71
HEB at Parmer Lane at IH-35
HEB at 115211 N RR 620 at Anderson Mill
Preferred Items are:            Money
                        Bottled Water
                        Canned Meat (w/ pop tops)
                        Diapers
                        Peanut Butter
                        Granola / Cereal Bars

☺ Volunteer with the Salvation Army by calling 476-1111.

☺ Volunteer with Victim's Services (must receive training first) by
calling 251-4004.

☺ Volunteer to provide foster care for the pets of the refugees
(animals are not being allowed in the center). Visit the back of the
Toney Burger Center on Highway 290 W in Sunset Valley, contact the
Texas Federation of Humane Societies at 282-1277, or contact Megan
Karpinski at the Austin Humane Society by calling 837-7985 or by e-
mail at mkarpinski@austinhumanesociety.org to let them know you can
provide foster care for one or more animals. If you are sending an
email, include the following information: name, phone number,
address, a statement that you want to help with Hurricane Katrina
displaced pets, a listing of how many you can take of each species,
and how long you are able to house the animals.

☺ Volunteer to open your home to refugees by calling 440-7965.

☺ Purchase and donate school supplies to any Washington Mutual
location. Washington Mutual is working in conjunction with Austin
Partners for Education to provide supplies for refugee students
entering AISD.  Use the school supply list on
www.austin.isd.tenet.edu (go to "Academics", then "Parent
Information") as a guide for what supplies to donate.

For further information about other ways to help, contact the United
Way and speak to someone in their volunteer center by calling 973-
9203.

We will continue to update this list as more information becomes
available.
