What is your position on a proposed Super Wal-Mart at northwest corner of Pfennig Ln and FM 685?
The Pflugerville Council of Neighborhood Associations (PfCONA) is making efforts to keep area citizens informed and involved in their neighborhoods and the broader community. These "Tidbits" of information are shared to help keep citizens in the loop--make them aware of current events and issues that impact them--plus give citizens a chance to give feedback.

If the horse racing track is built in Pflugerville, the Forum Shopping Center (Live Oak Tx) has expressed interest in putting retail in that area. They have Target, Home Depot, etc. It would make a LOT more sense to locate a WalMart out by Texas 130 in a planned Pflugerville retail area. Of course, there wouldn't be a big-box retail in Pville till around 2007 time frame, but it would make sense to vote NO for WalMart and YES for the racetrack, and locate the retail in a more attractive location, both for vendor and Pville citizen.
There is a terrific article from Seattle about Costco vs. WalMart (http://www.seattleweekly.com/features/printme.php3?eid=59294) that many would find interesting when assessing their stance on this issue. It seems that WalMart has a very negative drain on local economies, not only from killing small local businesses but as a result of the low wages and poor health care that WalMart offers its employees. WalMart is not a neighbor that we want in Pflugerville.
