PfCONA THANKS VOTING EFFORT VOLUNTEERS!!!
On behalf of its affiliated neighborhoods, the Pflugerville Council of Neighborhood Associations (PfCONA) would like to thank all the neighborhood volunteers and community organizations that took part in the Pflugerville VOTES! effort. The effort helped encourage the 12,000-plus voter-registered citizens to come out and vote in city council/school board elections during May early voting period and on election day. In the end, 1296 residents voted in the 2004 city election as opposed to less than 500 in 2003. PfCONA's goal was to help triple the city election overall vote from the year before, and for neighborhoods to do the same. The effort included neighborhood yard signs with early voting and voting dates; Council/School Board Candidate Forums (videotaped/televised on Cox Cable Ch. 10); Deutschen Pfest booth/flyers; Deutschen Pfest parade entry with banners/leaflets; Council/School Board Candidate Q&A articles/E-mail to neighborhood/community leaders for their constituents; Voting locations/Voting Effort/Candidate information on PfCONA website; Spring Market Days booth (cancelled due to weather); Voter Information via E-Newsletter and PfCONA Meetings; and, neighborhood election results count/analysis.

Thank you to all the citizens, neighborhoods and businesses who participated in placing Pflugerville VOTES! signs in their yards to promote city/school board elections including:
Arbor Creek, Blackhawk, Bohls Place, Bohls Crossing, Brookhollow, Club at Wells Point, Creekside, Flowers and Frills, Gatlinburg, Old Town, Parkcrest, Prague Market, Ridge at Steeds Crossing, Saxony, Second Chance Used Books, Willow Creek, and others who picked them up. Residents from Bohl's Place, Creekside, Katymead, Gatlinburg, Picadilly, Saxony, and Willowcreek were volunteers in certain parts of the Pflugerville VOTES! effort.
This year PfCONA focused on getting neighborhoods more involved in the get out the vote process--to have citizens join their neighbors in voting. In 2005 the effort will focus on encouraging all members of a household or all their friends to vote. It will also encourage neighborhoods to double their 2004 results, including reach out to registered voters who did not vote the year before. It can be done, especially when there are whole families, blocks, and entire Pflugerville neighborhoods that did not vote. There are also registered voters who did not vote such as: family members (voter's husbands, wives, daughters, or sons), neighborhood residents and leaders, city staff, school staff, church members, and many people active in the community. Our community has a lot of work to do--to challenge area residents to vote in every election--so we can all proudly say that Pflugerville votes. The November 2004 State/Federal Elections are already on the horizon and the next City/School Board election is May 7, 2005.
